        So far the research I have done on the two methods have many pros and cons. Is one really considered better that the other?

          The best option is to replace the tub. But of the two methods stated, the refinishing is the more expensive, and its longevity is dependnt upon the material used and the skill of the applier. My experience with liners is that they will allow water to get between the liner and the tub. When that happens, stepping into the tub is like stepping on a water bed, and there is no good way to get the water out.
